چکیده

Accurate determination of topography is required for a wide range of civilian and governmental applications. For example, modeling flood extent, flow velocity, and sediment transport associated with river networks requires bare-surface elevations with sub-meter height accuracy and spatial resolutions better than 10 meters. Strip-map interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR) sensors have been used extensively to map topography. However, most INSAR data have insufficient spatial resolution and height accuracy for high-resolution flood modeling. We combine space-borne INSAR data from the ERS-1/2 platforms with multiple sets of airborne C-band INSAR data acquired by the NASA/JPL TOPSAR platform to obtain statistically optimal high-resolution estimates of topography over the Finke River Gorge in central Australia. We fuse the INSAR data using a multiscale Kalman smoothing approach. The estimated topography preserves the spatial resolution of the TOPSAR data while smoothing noise and providing estimates where there was no TOPSAR coverage.

A multiscale dataset for understanding complex eco-hydrological processes in a heterogeneous oasis system

We introduce a multiscale dataset obtained from Heihe Watershed Allied Telemetry Experimental Research (HiWATER) in an oasis-desert area in 2012. Upscaling of eco-hydrological processes on a heterogeneous surface is a grand challenge. Progress in this field is hindered by the poor availability of multiscale observations. HiWATER is an experiment designed to address this challenge through instru...

A Method for Monitoring Hydrological Conditions beneath Herbaceous Wetlands Using Multi-temporal Alos Palsar Coherence Data

Reed marshes, the world’s most widespread type of wetland vegetation, are undergoing major changes as a result of climate changes and human activities. The presence or absence of water in reed marshes has a significant impact on the whole ecosystem and remains a key indicator to identify the effective area of a wetland and help estimate the degree of degeneration. Past studies have demonstrated...

Data fusion for remote sensing applications

With a growing number of satellite sensors the coverage of the earth in space, time and the electromagnetic spectrum is increasing fast. To be able to utilize all this information, a number of approaches for data fusion have been presented. The “multi” concept for remote sensing applications refers to multisource, multiscale, multipolarization, multifrequency, and multitemporal imagery. We pres...

Feature Dimension Reduction of Multisensor Data Fusion using Principal Component Fuzzy Analysis

These days, the most important areas of research in many different applications, with different tools, are focused on how to get awareness. One of the serious applications is the awareness of the behavior and activities of patients. The importance is due to the need of ubiquitous medical care for individuals. That the doctor knows the patient's physical condition, sometimes is very important. O...

Optical and Radar Data Fusion for Dem Generation

This paper presents a DEM generation procedure based on optical (SPOT stereo) and radar (InSAR, interferometric SAR) data. The first part of the paper is focused on InSAR. The second one is concerned with the integration of optical and radar data. Two levels of integration are proposed: the SPOT data can support the InSAR procedure (in particular phase unwrapping) and the SPOT and InSAR data ca...
